One of London's great victorian treasures has finally become available as a location for filming, photography and events.
The House of Detention in Clerkenwell stands on the site of an earlier 17thC prison (Clerkenwell Bridewell),
but the present buildings date from approx 1820. The entire site is underground, and forms a labyrinthine complex of vaults, cells, tunnels and pits.
The location is very large: in its time an estimated 10,000 men, women and children passed through its gates each year,
destined for transportation or the gallows.
Since briefly opening as a tourist attraction in the 1990's, it has been closed until very recently,
when it has re-opened to become available as a location through Location Works.
